The Story of One Photograph
This play grew out of a single photograph of Hollywood star Marlene Dietrich kneeling in front of an elderly man in a black suit. Who is this man? Why is she kneeling? Where was this photo taken?
Playwright and director Savva Saveliev found answers to these questions and based on them he wrote the play I Am Marlene. It is about the surprising connection between Marlene Dietrich and the story "Telegram" by Soviet writer Konstantin Paustovsky. These are two stories in one: the life of the legendary actress and singer, and the life of an old, forgotten woman in the Russian countryside. The viewer will be surprised to discover how much these two women have in common.
"I am Marlene" is a play about the reverse side of love, which passes the test of war, loneliness and fame.
The play's creators:
Playwright and director Savva Saveliev. His play Take Care of Your Faces (2022) was the last premiere of the legendary Gogol Center Theater. Each of Savva's performances is a manifesto of freedom. Ingeborga Dapkunaite's mono-performance Sveiki Sulaukę (2021), Man from Podolsk (2018) are all about the need for a person to be himself. His artistic solution to the play "Petrovs in the Flu" based on Kirill Serebrennikov's play brought him two nominations at once for the Golden Mask theater award.
Lisa Yankovskaya.
One of the brightest rising stars of theater and film, Lisa shines in major roles in the TV series "Missing" (2021) by Hollywood director Vadim Perelman and in the biopic "Nika" about the poet wunderkind Nika Turbina (2022). In the theatrical world, she became famous for her major roles in the Moscow Art Theater with Yuri Butusov and in Praktika with Grigory Dobrygin.
Simon Steinberg. Star of Gogol Center Theater, actor with a thousand faces. Kirill Serebrennikov deployed Simon's talent in different ways in Little Tragedies, Kafka, and The Executioners. He is equally virtuosic in the role of the writer in the TV series Soderzhanki (2019-2021), Andrei Smirnov in The Frenchman (2019), and as the mechanic Petrov in the play “Petrovs in the Flu” (2020).
